Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs)
A Must-Have, Made Easy
What is an EPC?
The Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is a must-have for anyone who wants to put a property on the market - whether to rent or to buy. And in Scotland the EPC must be displayed in the property - usually in the meter cupboard or by the boiler - before the rent or sale is open to the public. So, very much 'an essential'.
EPCs are a must for any property today, whether it's domestic or commercial. Not only are they are a legal requirement, they can help you stay on top of your energy use, saving you money on bills in the long run β and even improve a property's sale or rental value.
The EPC is effectively your property's M.O.T, with a better EPC rating meaning a greener property. And just as with road tax, greener could mean cheaper; future government legislation could mean council tax discounts for more energy-efficient homes. So making sure you are 'EPC aware' is a must.

We do Commercial EPCs
What's in an EPC?
The EPC contains information about your property's energy use, typical energy costs plus recommendations on how you could reduce energy usage and save money. From this, the EPC provides your property with an energy-efficiency rating, ranging from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient), valid for 10 years.
How do I get an EPC?
To get an EPC, your property has to be surveyed by an accredited EPC assessor. That's where The Energy Saving Store can help. We'll arrange for a fully qualified assessor to visit your property at a convenient time, so they can assess key features like: -
- Structural design and build form
- Insulation in walls, floors and loft (as appropriate)
- Domestic heating systems, radiators and hot water tank
- Any / all windows and lighting inside and out
- Any renewable energy devices / sources you may have

Is the EPC a big deal?
The process is not such a big deal as it's 'non-invasive', i.e. our qualified assessors are able to make a judgement based on factors such as the property's age and build-form, with no disruptive work. But the result is a big deal; all of the info gathered will be used to calculate your property's energy-efficiency rating.
We could help you improve your EPC rating.
Get in touch with your EPC enquiry and we can also advise you on measures you could take to improve the energy efficiency of your property. Itβs as simple as an email to The Energy Saving Store, telling us: -
- Where is your property?
- Does your property have an EPC?
- If so, what is the EPC rating of your property? From A 'Very Efficient' to G 'Inefficient'.
